Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment (AMEC), a Chinese chip equipment maker, has been removed from the US Department of Defense (DOD) blacklist of companies with alleged ties to China's military, reports the South China Morning Post. The Shanghai-based company was removed from the Pentagon's list of "Chinese Military Companies operating in the US" on December 13, according to the DOD's latest filing to the US Federal Register.
AMEC, along with other Chinese tech firms, was added to the DOD list in January 2023 due to concerns about threats to US national security. The DOD's designation prohibited the department from purchasing goods and services from the listed companies.
The DOD did not provide a reason for AMEC's removal, nor for the simultaneous removal of Chinese investment firm IDG Capital, which was also added to the list in January.
AMEC confirmed its removal from the list to Chinese Business Network on Wednesday, stating that the change had no impact on the company's daily operations.
