NXP Partners with South Korean Startup Bitsensing in Automotive Radar Deal

Dutch chipmaker NXP has teamed up with South Korean startup bitsensing to sell radar systems for use in automobiles, reports Reuters. The agreement will see NXP's radar chips integrated with bitsensing's radar hardware and software, according to an email from bitsensing CEO Jae-Eun Lee to Reuters. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Bitsensing's radar technology is distinguished by its extended range compared to competitors, along with the capability to operate in both horizontal and vertical planes, the company states. Lee highlighted radar's superiority over lidar and cameras in challenging weather conditions, emphasizing its crucial role in automotive safety applications.

"Radar generally has an edge over lidar and cameras in bad weather," Lee told Reuters.

Bitsensing, established in 2018, has secured $52 million in funding. The partnership with NXP signifies a significant step in expanding its reach within the automotive sector.
